Product overview
A pre-shipment glove inspection should compare finished goods with the approved purchase order, product specification, reference sample and packaging artwork before release. It can identify visible, dimensional, quantity and packing differences while there is still time to discuss corrective action. It does not by itself prove every performance claim or destination-market requirement; laboratory testing and regulatory checks should be planned separately when required.
This guide is for importers, distributors, private-label brands and contract-cleaning buyers ordering reusable latex, nitrile or PVC gloves. Agree the scope before production, give the inspector one current document set and decide in advance how exceptions will be handled.
Start with one controlled inspection pack
Give the person inspecting the goods the latest approved purchase order, product specification, color and size breakdown, signed sample or photo reference, packaging artwork, carton-marking file and shipment plan. Version control matters. A correct-looking glove can still be the wrong model, cuff length, colorway or packing configuration if the reference material is out of date.
The inspection brief should state the buyer's priorities. For example: model identity, size assortment, visual workmanship, color, labels, unit packing, master-carton marks and carton count. It should also record the production location, intended destination, inspection date and the buyer contact who can answer a question promptly.
Check product identity and visual condition
Confirm that the glove material, model name or SKU, color and size match the approved documents. Inspect a practical spread of units from more than one carton and, where relevant, more than one production batch. Look for visible issues such as mismatched left and right gloves, incomplete pairs, tears, holes, seams or cuffs that do not match the approved sample, obvious contamination, inconsistent color, printing defects and damage caused by folding or packing.
Describe what is observed rather than making an unverified performance claim. A visible examination can document surface condition and identity. It cannot substitute for a laboratory result or prove a chemical-protection, food-contact or medical claim.
Measure only the agreed dimensions
Measure the dimensions written in the product specification: for example, length, palm width, cuff width or thickness only where the method and tolerance have been agreed. Record the tool, location of measurement and the actual result. A number without its method is difficult to interpret later.
If the buyer has not agreed a tolerance, the inspection should report the measurement and request a decision rather than inventing a pass or fail threshold. The same principle applies to weight, lining, embossing and any special finish.
Reconcile quantity, sizes and carton packing
Count finished cartons, inner packs and pairs against the purchase order. Reconcile the size and color mix with the approved breakdown. A packing list should clearly identify shipment contents, package type and count, net and gross weight, package marks and dimensions; these details should align with the commercial invoice. The U.S. International Trade Administration describes these as common packing-list elements for export shipments.
For glove orders, check whether the number of pairs per inner pack, inner packs per carton and total cartons match the agreed packing specification. Note mixed cartons, shortages, overages and loose units. Record whether the count is a full count or a sampled count.
Inspect labels, artwork and markings
Check retail packaging, inner packs and master cartons against the approved artwork and marking file. Verify the product name, model or SKU, size, color, quantity statement, country-of-origin wording when specified, barcode or label position when supplied, and any destination-language text provided by the buyer.
Import and labelling requirements vary by destination and product use. Buyers shipping to Russia, Central Asia or any other market should confirm current official requirements with their importer or qualified local adviser before printing. The inspection can verify that the approved file was used; it cannot independently certify legal compliance.
Treat packaging as a checkable specification
Packaging affects handling, presentation and shipment reconciliation. Inspect the unit pack for sealed or otherwise agreed closure, readable printing, correct pair quantity and physical damage. Check outer cartons for correct marks, legible handling information where requested, carton dimensions, gross weight when specified, closure condition and evidence of water damage, crushing or poor stacking.
Photograph representative units, labels, inner packs, carton faces and any nonconformity. Photos should show enough context to identify the model and issue. Keep the file names with the inspection report so the buyer can trace each observation.
Separate findings from acceptance decisions
A useful report distinguishes observations from the buyer's acceptance decision. List each discrepancy with the reference document, the affected sample or carton, photos, count if known and a proposed next action. Examples include rework, replacement, relabelling, repacking, additional checking or buyer approval of a documented deviation.
Do not turn a visual inspection into a claim that a glove meets a standard, test method or certification unless the relevant current document and product match have been verified. For any required testing, ask for the exact test report, standard version, issuing laboratory and product identification.
Buyer checklist before release
- Approved PO, specification, sample and artwork are the versions used for inspection.
- Model, material, color, size assortment and quantity are reconciled.
- Agreed dimensions are measured and recorded with their method.
- Visible product, pair and packaging defects are documented with photos.
- Unit-pack, inner-pack and master-carton quantities match the packing plan.
- Labels, carton marks and buyer-supplied language files match the approved artwork.
- Packing-list details can be reconciled with the commercial invoice and shipment plan.
- Every exception has an owner, a next action and a written buyer decision before release.
Frequently asked questions
### Is a pre-shipment inspection the same as laboratory testing?
No. A pre-shipment inspection is usually a documented review of finished goods, quantities, appearance, packing and agreed measurements. Laboratory testing addresses only the specific methods, samples and properties covered by a valid report.
### Should the inspector decide whether the goods pass?
The buyer should define the acceptance criteria in advance. An inspector can report observations against those criteria. If a condition is not covered, the report should document it for the buyer's decision.
### What information should be sent to RSG Gloves before inspection?
Send the model or SKU, material, intended use, size and color mix, approved sample or images, packaging and carton requirements, label languages, destination, inspection scope and contact person. For a private-label enquiry, use our contact form to share the specification and timing.
Prepare an inspection brief with RSG Gloves
RSG Gloves can discuss reusable latex, nitrile and PVC glove options together with the order information needed for inspection planning. Share the confirmed model, packing expectation, intended destination and any buyer-supplied artwork early so the final inspection brief can compare the correct goods with the correct documents.
