How to Specify Glove Carton Packing for Import Orders

A practical glove carton packing guide for import buyers: specify inner packs, master cartons, labels, cube and inspection points before production.

Product overview

For an importer, glove carton packing is part of the product specification, not an afterthought. A glove can meet the agreed material, size and color requirements yet still create avoidable cost when the retail pack does not fit a shelf plan, the master carton is hard to handle, or outer markings are incomplete. Set the packing format before the purchase order is confirmed so the factory, forwarder and receiving team are working from the same instructions.

Start with the unit the buyer will sell or issue

First decide how the end user receives the gloves. Retail programs may use a printed pair bag, a header card or a color box. Contract-cleaning and distributor programs may prefer practical bulk packs. State whether each sales unit contains one pair, multiple pairs or an agreed assortment. If the product is paired, specify whether left and right gloves are nested, laid flat or folded. These details affect the pack dimensions, presentation and count check.

For private-label orders, provide the approved artwork version, barcode position, language requirements and any warning or care text required in the destination market. Keep the artwork file name and revision number in the purchase order. Do not assume that a prior packaging layout applies to a new size range or a new glove length.

Define the inner pack before the master carton

The inner pack is the bridge between the product and logistics. Record the number of pairs per inner pack, the number of inner packs per master carton, and the permitted size assortment. When a carton contains several sizes, show the count for each size rather than writing only a total. For example, an order may call for the same pack format across sizes while the carton mix varies by the buyer’s sales forecast.

Ask for a pre-production packing diagram when carton packing matters to your channel. It should show unit dimensions, orientation, gross weight estimate and how the inner packs are arranged. This simple document is useful when checking container loading, warehouse storage or retail replenishment.

Specify master-carton limits that match your handling

A master carton should protect the goods and suit normal handling. State the requested carton material or performance requirement when it is relevant, the target outer dimensions, the maximum gross weight and any pallet requirement. Avoid setting a carton count alone without considering glove length, packaging thickness and local handling limits. A long cuff or a boxed retail pack can change the available cube even when the number of pairs is unchanged.

Request both net and gross weight estimates before booking shipment. Your forwarder needs the final carton dimensions and total cubic volume to plan a container or consolidated shipment. Allow a reasonable production tolerance, but agree in advance which measurements must remain within a defined range.

Make carton marks useful to receiving teams

Outer-carton marks should let a warehouse identify the goods without opening every carton. Common fields include the buyer or brand name, product description, SKU, color, size, quantity, carton number, country of origin where applicable, and handling marks. If the cartons contain mixed sizes or colors, state that clearly in the marking specification.

Use a carton-number format such as 1 of 250 only after the total count is confirmed. Barcode labels should be tested for readability and applied consistently. If labels are supplied by the buyer, confirm the label size, adhesive type, delivery date and backup digital file before production begins.

Include packing checks in pre-shipment inspection

Packing inspection is more than counting cartons. Check that the correct product and size labels are inside the correct retail packs, the inner-pack quantity matches the packing list, outer marks match the purchase order, and cartons are clean, sealed and suitable for transit. Photograph representative cartons, marks and pallet labels for the shipment record.

For reusable latex, nitrile or PVC gloves, keep product-performance claims separate from the packaging specification. The packing document should describe the agreed product presentation and logistics requirements; application suitability should be verified against the product specification and the buyer’s intended use.

A short packing brief to send with your inquiry

A clear glove carton packing brief normally includes: product SKU and sizes; pairs per sales unit; sales units per inner pack; inner packs per master carton; carton dimension and weight targets; assortment rules; artwork and barcode files; carton marks; pallet or container-loading requirements; and required inspection records. Share it with the supplier before sampling or mass production.

RSG Gloves can review a proposed packing format alongside the glove specification and provide a quotation basis for the agreed program.
